Meetup 28: Salad Spinner Art

For our 28th meetup with the The Children's Art Group, I thought it would be fun for the kids to try Salad Spinner Art. I had done this before with my son, so I knew the kids would have a lot of fun with this, and it's a bit less messy than some of our recent past art projects.

I first wanted to see if anyone had a salad spinner, which no one did. So a month prior to the meetup, I scoured my local Goodwill thrift store and found 3 for a few dollars a piece. The figured the kids could take turns using them, and that ended up working out perfectly!  So I provided the salad spinners and paper (which I cut in circles to fit the spinners prior to the meetup)
and I asked everyone else attending to bring some washable paint.

We had kids ranging from 3-12 and they all enjoyed this activity!

The idea is to simply lay a piece of paper at the bottom of the salad spinner,
dab some paint/s in as you'd like, and then SPIN!

Teamwork!

beautiful, fun, and simple!

A big hit with the group!

After the meetup was over, I let a few people take the salad spinners home, providing they bring them back for our meetup in the spring...Salad Spinner Tie Dye T-shirts!

Meetup 27: Dead Leaf Art

Our group got together on a late Autumn afternoon for some Dead Leaf Art. You'll see tons of Autumn leaf art activities that use spectacular pretty red and yellow leaves that you'll find in early Fall, but we decided that those crunchy dry brown "end of Autumn" dead leaves would make some terrific art of their own!

The Setup
Our gracious mom host, brought in a huge bag of leaves from outside, giving each kid a big pile on the table and having plenty more if they needed it!

paper, glue, and crayons were the only other art materials needed, making this a very easy setup!

It was suggested that they could draw a tree with the crayons and then glue leaves to the branches, which some did and I loved how different each child's tree interpretation was!

and my favorite of all was the little boy who made a huge leaf pile
over his paper and just squirted glue all over it! By the end of it, he had put enough glue that the pile would have dried and stayed just as it was. I love his artistic style! :)

Besides leaf pile jumping, who knew dead leaves could be so fun!?

Meetup 26: Colored Glue Art

Our groups 26th meetup was super fun! The kids made wonderful works of art with Colored Glue.
The idea for colored glue came from the rainbow glue that Pink and Green Mama made. We added acrylic paint to our glue as did the original post
The children loved squeezing the glue to make their artwork!

For this meetup, I made a 7 color batch of colored glue and asked that everyone else that was able, to make a few colors as well so there was enough to go around. The moms (and dad!) brought LOTS of colored glue in so many different colors and some even put glitter in their's which was really cool! Someone brought glitter as well, and the kids loved adding glitter to their glue paintings.

We ended up with lots of leftover colored glue to take home!

This art playdate was inspired by one of my favorite creative art blogs, Casa Maria's Creative Learning Zone. We used droppers and cut straws to let the kids blot colored water (food coloring) on layers of tissue paper. I used ice trays to hold the food coloring. I gave each table a few trays, lots of droppers and straws, and then explained the activity to the group. We had a great turnout and our little artists ranged from ages 2-10. This simple activity was a lot of fun and suprisingly very engaging for all of them!

Some of the older kids loved helping me mix the food coloring into the water.

Meetup 24: Painting Pumpkins

This was a fun seasonal art playdate that one of our awesome art mamas hosted at her house in the driveway. Our host Emily provided lots of paint, glitter spray, pumpkin stickers, etc. and everyone brought their own pumpkins and other stuff to decorate them with.

She even made these carmel apple halves for everyone!
Very food crafty!

It was a beautiful day, it was an easy setup in the driveway,
and the kids went right to work on their pumpkins.
