Meetup 19: Painting with Colored Ice Cubes

The Children's Art Group had so much fun
 Painting with Colored Ice!

The painted ice cubes were made simply with paint mixed with water. I just used what I had on hand...powdered tempura, and washable poster paint. Both made great colors and thick cubes. When I was running low on paint, I used my friend Cassie's suggestion to use Koolaid. It worked brilliantly! It was cheap, easy, and made large batches at one time!

I had star and gem moulds from when I used to make homemade soap.
These worked perfectly and were so pretty!

We taped a large white sheet to my friends carport and the fun began!

We had a great turnout!

Beautiful!

I've seen this activity all over Pinterest,

  1. This is a favorite of ours! I have frozen paint in the freezer pretty much all the time, LOL. That way whenever my boys are feeling creative we can grab some and go. I don't usually add water, but I might next time. I really love how your colors blended together.

  2. Very very beautiful! There's another thing you can do with paint and fabric. Get the kids to make a simple drawing on white paper using a black pen. Help the child to slip the paper under the fabric and trace the outline with a permanent marker. Next move the drawing into a new position under the fabric and trace it again so that it starts to make a pattern. When everyone is happy with their pattern you can put colour onto the fabric any way you like. Think I might try ice cubes next time!

You can do this with all ages - but I have done some lovely ones with pre-school groups. I'll try and look out some photographs to put on my next blog.
